Ya en el partido del miércoles se permitió el equipo de Radomir Antic caer derrotado frente a Lituania. Gran selección que puede dar la campanada en algún partido del Mundial.
Dinamarca consiguió la victoria que necesitaba para clasificarse con un tanto de Jakob Poulsen frente a Suecia, además de dejar a esta misma selección practicamente eliminada. Portugal venció en su partido por 3 a 0 frente a Hungría y con una victoria frente a Malta tenía la repesca asegurada (venció por 4-0).
Finalmente Alemania se enfrentaba a Rusia en uno de los partidos más atractivos de la jornada, que decidiría quien se clasificaría directamente para el Mundial y quien tendria que jugar la repesca. Una lucha de igual a igual que acabó con el resultado de 0-1 favorable a Alemania, gol de Klose, y que jugó con uno menos la recta final del encuentro por la expulsión por doble amarilla del lateral debutante Jerome Boateng por doble amarilla.
Quedaban por decidir dos de los clasificados como primeros de grupo para la jornada del miércoles, que fueron Eslovaquia, que venció por la mínima a Polonia, con gol en propia puerta incluido, y Suiza que en la última jornada necesitaba solo un empate, y así fue, empate a cero frente a Israel y primer puesto.
Así con todo, los clasificados como primeros de grupo son: Dinamarca, Suiza, Eslovaquia, Alemania, España, Inglaterra, Serbia, Italia y Holanda.
Los que jugarán la repesca son: Rusia, Bosnia, Francia, República de Irlanda, Ucrania, Grecia, Portugal y Eslovenia.
